Jimmie was born and raised in St. George. He graduated from Dixie High School and did a short stint at what was then Dixie College before serving a church mission for 2 years in Brazil.
Upon his return, he went to work in Southern California as a real estate appraiser and then a mortgage officer for a highly rated financial institution. His career for the company spanned 12 years and took him all over Southern California to Salt Lake City and then finally back home to St. George.
While in Salt Lake City, Jimmie met and married Tawny Preece from Vernal, Utah. They have 5 children that they have enjoyed raising in St. George. Spending time with Tawny and the kids is truly his greatest joy. They are his motivation for wanting to be a part of keeping St. George the best city to live in the world! Upon his return to St George Jimmie had the opportunity to pursue a career in something he always wanted to do. He returned to school to earn an Associates Degree in Applied Funeral Sciences and is currently the owner of Hughes Mortuary. He feels this is truly his calling as he serves community members at one of the most difficult times in their lives.
In his spare time, Jimmie is a rancher. Along with Tawny and the kids they own a small cattle ranch on the Arizona Strip bordering the Grand Canyon where they like to spend time away from it all working the cattle, mending fences, branding cattle and just relaxing by working hard. This reminds him of the hard work of those who came before that made St. George such a great place to live.
